Why is a custom box better?
There's a few main reasons a custom box is much better than a prefab box. First, it's better suited to YOUR vehicle, either behind regular cab seats, a tall and wide box for a hatchback, or a massive up facing for a SUV, a custom box is tailored for your vehicle. Next, you are gonna get much better performance. The box will be designed around your equipment, music preferences, available space, budget, and more. Prefabs tend to have less than enough airspace, use thin wood, and very cheap materials. Our custom boxes use high quality supplies, and wood that is plenty thick enough. For only a little higher cost, you get a custom box that gets the absolute best performance from your equipment, looks good, and won't ever fall apart.
Sealed Vs Ported
Sealed boxes typically take up less space, they have punchier, more "linear" bass (in the frequency curve, ported boxes fall off really fast after the tuning frequency). Sealed is normally used in sound quality systems as they produce more accurate bass.
Ported boxes take up more space, as they require a big port. Math and design is required to get the port at a specific tuning frequency. It makes it louder, peaking at the tuning frequency. However the volume falls off really fast after the tuning frequency. So unless you tune it to play really low, the sealed box might actually play deeper than the ported. It tends to cause more rumble than sealed, but it also plays slightly less accurately.
